This hike is a little over one hour east of Redding. the parking lot is paved and has bathroom facilities, picnic areas and is also a camp ground. directly across 89 is the walkway to Subway cave which is a 1,300 foot cave with no form of light so bring a few flashlights, it is a very straight forward volcanic tube, but watch your step the ground is a bit dangerous. Hat Creek is located back across highway 89. The creek itself is a very crisp and photogenic but the hike follows the creek which follows 89, so its not easy to feel seclusion with cars going by. This hike was at one point very nice, but unfortunately almost the entire was ravaged by a wildfire that occurred in 09' that started by a lightning strike.
